"Whenever anybody says they are going to give me some kind of award, I'm always a little stupefied by the notion. The first thing I say is 'why?'," Depp told reporters.

Depp said he planned to spend Christmas on his private island off Exuma.

Fellow acting superstar Sean Connery , who also owns a home in the Bahamas, presented Depp with the award at the Balmoral Club in Nassau.
