Consider submitting items for car calendar now; here's how

You might have noticed that our "Getting Together" listing of car shows and other car-related events has shrunk considerably in recent weeks.

It's not surprising, considering the onset of low temperatures and high winds — not exactly lawn chair weather.

But it's not too early to list your event with us. In fact, now is a good time to get a little added exposure on the Wheels page, as there's a little less competition for the limited space available.

Here's what we need: The date and name of your event, including, if possible, how many years it has been staged (for example, June 4, 12th annual Big City Rod and Custom Show). Also, give us the location and the start and finish times of your event, the name of a contact person and a good working phone number for that person so readers can call for additional information.

Our space can be tight sometimes, and we may not be able to publish as many listings as we want to on a given week. Priority will generally be given to events happening closest to the publication date. We prefer to reserve our calendar space for special events, rather than regular club meetings, racing competition schedules or events that are primarily commercial endeavors.

To get to current calendar listings online, go to and click on the orange "Auto" link. Then scroll down to the Wichita On Wheels section and click on "more."

You can get your show information to us in several ways. Mail it to: Wichita On Wheels, 825 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS, 67202-3512. E-mail it to: Or call and leave a voicemail at 316-268-6207.

Finally, give us some lead time to get your listing into the system. A couple or three weeks is about the minimum to ensure we can get an event listed and so that readers will have time to make plans based on the information.

Thanks for helping us keep our fellow gearheads on schedule.
