Fire Safety Month: Don't forget pets
October is National Fire Safety Month, and the Wichita Fire Department
is teaming with the Kansas Toy Dog Club, Invisible Fence Brand of
Central Kansas and the National Volunteer Fire Council to help reduce
the number of pets killed or injured in home fires each year. On Oct.
21, the club will host fire Lt. Tim Deneen, who will offer fire safety
tips for pet owners and accept a gift of eight animal resuscitation
masks for the Fire Department to use. Read more.

Events: Veterinarians to speak on pet health topics
Veterinary surgeon Michael Nawrocki will be the featured speaker tonight
at a meeting of the Wichita Kennel Club. Nawrocki, who practices at the
Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Wichita, will speak on
"Developmental Orthopedic Diseases Prevalent in Dogs" at 7:30 p.m. The
meeting is open to the public. And Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., Andover
Veterinary Clinic will present a session called "Inexpensive Ways to
Prevent Problems in Your Pets." Find out more.
