First Quarter

Key play: Facing a third-and-long at midfield, Colorado's Tyler Hansen turned a broken play into a first down by scrambling up field. It led to the Buffaloes' first touchdown.

Key stat: A week after Kansas failed to rush for positive yardage against Colorado, K-State rushed for 76 yards in the first quarter.

Second Quarter

Key play: Josh Cherry's field goal of 27 yards was a nice sight. His second make of the day gave K-State confidence it could score anytime its offense was in scoring range.

Key stat: Colorado was held to 38 rushing yards in the second quarter.

Third Quarter

Key play: Following K-State's worst drive of the game, Prizell Brown and Joshua Moore combined for an 11-yard sack on Hansen to squash any hope of Colorado cutting into K-State's lead.

Key stat: The teams combined for 74 yards of offense.

Fourth Quarter

Key play: Emmanuel Lamur intercepted a pass on Colorado's final drive and ended all hope of a Buffaloes comeback in the process.

Key stat: K-State held the ball for 11 minutes, 6 seconds in the fourth quarter, effectively running out the clock when it had to.

Report card

Offense: C+. It wasn't a pretty effort, but when the Wildcats had good field position and didn't commit penalties their running game allowed them to score without much effort.

Defense: A. Aside from a poor showing on Colorado's opening drive, K-State's defense was on top of its game. It forced seven punts and allowed 244 yards.

Special Teams: B+. The punting game could have been a bit better, but Josh Cherry made both of his field goals and K-State's return unit remained solid.

Coaching: A. Kansas State's defense improved as the game went along and the Wildcats showed no signs of a hangover after last week's monstrous win.

Player of the game

Emmanuel Lamur. The junior safety came up to the line of scrimmage when he had to and made impressive open-field tackles to help shut down Colorado's rushing attack and also intercepted two passes.

Reason to hope

Kansas State's defensive letdowns against Texas Tech are starting to look like an aberration. The Wildcats have allowed only 20 points in two games since and are combining good coverage with an effective pass rush.

Reason to mope

Bill Snyder summed up K-State's passing struggles when a reporter asked what Snyder thought of Grant Gregory completing 9 of 18 passes for 80 yards while taking two sacks. "It stunk. Bad."

Looking ahead

A road trip to Oklahoma is up next for Kansas State. The Wildcats have yet to win a true road game and will be underdogs in Norman.
