First-place Wildcats stop Colorado

MANHATTAN -- The Kansas State football team defeated Colorado 20-6 on Saturday at Snyder Family Stadium and stayed atop the Big 12 North standings with the win.

The Wildcats are now 5-3 overall with a conference record of 3-1. It is their best conference start since 2000.

K-State won the game behind a strong defensive effort and a solid offensive performance at the start of the game. The Wildcats led 20-6 at halftime, and the score held up the rest of the way.

The second half was ugly for both teams. Neither side could get anything going, and sacks and penalties became the norm.

Colorado ended with 244 yards of total offense. K-State put together 284.

Daniel Thomas led the Wildcats on offense with 145 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Grant Gregory also ran in a touchdown, but struggled throwing the ball as he completed 9 of 18 passes for 80 yards.

Kansas State's other points came on two Josh Cherry field goals.

Colorado scored on its opening drive of the game but only crossed midfield once after that. With the loss, the Buffaloes dropped to 2-5 and 1-2.

On defense, K-State was led by Emmanuel Lamur. The junior safety recorded five tackles and picked off two passes. Jeffrey Fitzgerald also looked good recording 1.5 sacks.

Up next for the Wildcats is a trip to Oklahoma.
