The Mayo Clinic is offering baseline concussion testing to more than 100,000 Arizona high school athletes heading into the 2011-12 high school sports year.
It’s a measure of how an individual’s brain works, so that if someone does suffer a head injury, doctors can look back on that previous testing and find out the amount of damage sustained.
Some might think this is overreacting, but I think it’s excellent. Head injuries are no joke, and we’re finding out more and more just how awful these injuries are to an athlete’s future.
