It was a sad day on Monday, as area people mourned the death of Mitch Caster, a Goddard graduate and Wichita State baseball player.
My condolences to all those who knew Caster.
I’m glad to see we’ve gotten discussion on the tennis blog. It’s good to see. I’ll start blog posts today for all sports, so we can get talking about them.
Please remember to keep the conversations analytical, which is different than dogging individuals. Also, I’ve had to delete recent comments because of cussing and inappropriate words. Please clean that up. Thank you.
Never miss a local story.
Moving right along.
Let’s talk today about the best schools for athletics. This could be simply because of facilities or it could be because of success or coaches.
I’ll get it started. If we’re talking strictly facilities, I’d say Goddard. I love Goddard’s facilities. Nothing there is halfway, everything sets the standard for all other schools. I love going there for football, soccer, baseball, softball, basketball.
If we’re talking success of a school, it’s an interesting discussion. As a female, I’d probably choose Bishop Carroll. What does girls sports des Carroll struggle in? In all the main ones, basketball, softball, volleyball, track, cross country, soccer, they’re one of the best.
It’s also interesting to me to see how the success of schools has changed.
It wasn’t all that long ago that Southeast was a football power and basketball power. When South was a basketball power. There’s been some shift there. Remember when Heights was terrible in everything? Now Heights and Northwest are right there where they’re good a variety of sports.
The cycles of sports are truly fascinating.
