Kansas teenagers have another week to apply for six entries to April’s Governor’s turkey hunt.
Janet Post, event director, said since 2002 the hunt has hosted up to six hunters between the ages of 12 and 18. The deadline for applying is Jan. 8 and applications are available at www.ksgovsturkeyhunt.com.
Post said a selection committee generally looks for a variety of kids, including experienced and beginning hunters and youth from various parts of the state.
The application carries two essay-style questions. Youths also most have passed a hunter education course.
Post said the youth hunters, and an accompanying family member or guardian, will be paired with area guides experienced with wild turkeys and hunting with kids.
