The 11th annual Wichita Eagle’s Kids Fishing Clinic, on June 9, gives children 12 and under the chance to catch a fish.
The event will again be held in conjunction with the Great Plains Nature Center’s Walk With Wildlife at Chisholm Creek Park, near 29th North and Woodlawn.
This year’s clinic is sponsored by Cabela’s and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism.
Registration goes through June 1 or when all spaces are filled. Find forms in the newspaper or register at The Eagle’s front counter at 825 E. Douglas. The clinic is free after a $2 admission charge to enter the Walk With Wildlife.
Volunteers and staff from the sponsors and the Flatland Fly Fishers Club will help the children. All equipment is furnished. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Fishing is catch-and-release and half-hour sessions are assigned between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Signups for specific times will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Assigned times will be mailed to participants, as will the rain date in case of postponement.
