FOOTBALL

Kansas State senior Jordan Bedore is one of 42 players named to the 2008 Rimington Trophy spring trophy watch list. The trophy goes to the nation's best center.

• The tandem of running backs that helped Indianapolis win its first Super Bowl title in 2006 -- Joseph Addai and Dominic Rhodes -- has been reunited after Rhodes agreed on a one-year deal Wednesday to return to the Colts.

• Offensive tackle David Diehl signed a two-year extension with the New York Giants that will keep him under contract with the Super Bowl champions through the 2013 season.

Diehl, who had four years left on an extension he signed in 2005, will earn $31 million under terms of the new deal.

• Former Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh sent the NFL eight videotapes that show New England violated league rules by recording opposing coaches' playcalling signals.

The tapes include signals by coaches of five opponents in six games from 2000-02, but don't include video from the St. Louis Rams' walkthrough before the 2002 Super Bowl.

MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

Thirteen fights are scheduled for a mixed martial arts card at 7 p.m. Saturday at Century II's Convention Hall.

Eric Payne, Joe Wilk and Brazilian fighters Damaso Schubert, Roberto Tozi and Fernando Neto highlight the card.

Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight champion Anderson Silva is scheduled to be on hand at Friday's 7 p.m. weigh-in at Heroes in Old Town, and at Saturday's fights. He will not compete in the event.

MOTORSPORTS

81 Speedway, 7700 N. Broadway, will have racing today, Friday and Saturday. Cruisers, Hornets, Junior Hornets and Youth Hornets compete at 7:30 tonight, with motorcycle racing at 8 Friday night. Saturday's event is scheduled to have Modifieds, Late Models, AAA Modifieds, Rookie Modifieds, Street Stock and Thumper. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 children 6-11 each night.

BASKETBALL

Hutchinson Community College sophomore and former Maize High player Amanda Fessenden signed with Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday.

Fessenden, a 5-foot-9 forward, averaged 14.8 points for the Blue Dragons last season. Fessenden's teammate, Hailey Purcell, signed with Tennessee-Martin.

• Rockets guard Tracy McGrady could need three months to recover following operations on his knee and shoulder Tuesday. Loose tissue was cleared out of the left knee and left shoulder.

HOCKEY

Paul Maurice has been fired as coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs after his team failed to make the playoffs during his two seasons.

• Switzerland used a strong defensive effort to beat high-scoring Sweden 4-2 at the IIHF World Hockey Championship.

TENNIS

Rafael Nadal lost on clay for only the second time in 105 matches, falling to Juan Carlos Ferrero 7-5, 6-1 in the second round of the Rome Masters. Nadal was the two-time defending champion.

• Defending champion Ana Ivanovic overcame a slow start before defeating qualifier Akgul Amanmuradova 7-6 (0), 6-2 at the German Open.

COLLEGES

Florida International was placed on four years' probation by the NCAA and will lose scholarships for a variety of infractions.

More than 40 athletes who competed for the school from the 2002-03 through the 2006-07 academic years violated rules, said Josephine Potuto, chairwoman of the NCAA committee on infractions.
