The Wingnuts rallied for three runs in the ninth and beat the AirHogs 6-5 on Wednesday in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Wichita got all three runs in the ninth without the ball leaving the infield. Chris McMurray started the inning by reaching base on an error by second baseman Alex Nunez. Jared McDonald walked, then Jake Luce put down a sacrifice bunt and reached base on AirHogs pitcher Alex Hinshaw’s throwing error. Ryan Khoury’s groundout drove in McDonald with the tying run, then Luce stole third and continued home on a throwing error by catcher Brian Peterson.

Hinshaw spent most of the season with the Wingnuts before being traded last week for Abel Nieves.

The Wingnuts were held scoreless for seven innings by Danny Gutierrez. Wichita scored three in the eighth with two singles, a walk, a wild pitch and a two-run double by Victor Diaz to take a 3-2 lead. Grand Prairie went ahead 6-3 in the bottom of the eighth with three runs against new Wingnuts reliever Chris Peacock. Another recent edition, Chase Johnson, pitched the ninth.

The Wingnuts are off Thursday, then play start a four-game homestand Friday against Laredo to end the regular season.
