The Wingnuts beat the Laredo Lemurs 8-4 on Friday night in Laredo, Texas, clinching the American Association South Division title with 10 games left in the regular season.

Pitching coach Luke Robertson was activated before the game, started and went five innings. He was pressed into service when Jon Link’s contract was purchased by the Miami Marlins’ organization. Robertson allowed six hits, walked one batter and struck out two.

The Wingnuts gave Roberston plenty of breathing room with a five-run second inning, ushing five singles and a Lemur error.

Laredo got as close as 6-4 after six innings, but Brent Clevlen homered in the eighth and doubled to drive in Chris McClendon in the ninth to pad Wichita’s lead.

Wichita (64-26), which has had the league’s best record most of the season, won its eighth straight game. The Wingnuts can clinch the league’s best record with three more wins.
