Wingnuts starter Gabe Medina battled through 6 2/3 innings, giving his teammates enough time to pull out an 8-5 win over Fort Worth on Wednesday in Fort Worth.
The win allowed Wichita to keep pace with first-place Sioux Falls in the American Association North Division second-half race. The Wingnuts are a half game behind in the league's final week of play.
The Wingnuts scored four runs in the first. That lead vanished in the fifth when Kelley Gulledge hit a game-tying three-run homer to make it 5-5.
Cesar Suarez was the only Wingnut who didn't score a run Wednesday, but he drove in the go-ahead run with a seventh-inning sacrifice fly.
Michael Bell's two-out, two-run homer in the eighth gave Wichita a three-run lead.
Dustin Cameron worked a scoreless ninth against his former team to pick up the save.
The Wingnuts are off today. They return home Friday to begin a three-game series against El Paso to wrap up the regular season.
