The Wingnuts bullpen came to the rescue Wednesday night, limiting St. Paul to one run in 7 2/3 innings as Wichita rallied for a 7-6 victory over the Saints in St. Paul, Minn.
Brandon Mathes entered the game in the second inning and gave up one run in 3 2/3 innings. Dustin Pease, Cephas Howard and Justin Dowdy finished with four hitless innings. Pease picked up the win and Dowdy got his 11th save.
The Wingnuts trailed 6-3 after three innings. They got two runs back in the fourth. Josh Horn tripled and scored on Ryan Patterson's triple. Jorge Cortes drove home Patterson with a sacrifice fly.
Wichita tied the score 6-6 in the sixth inning when Mario Delgado singled to drive in Cortes.
Never miss a local story.
The go-ahead run came in the seventh. Saints reliever Jay D-Alessandro intentionally walked Cortes to load the bases with two outs... and then walked Jackson Melian to force in a run.
