The Sioux Falls Pheasants overcame a seven-run deficit and beat the Wingnuts 9-8 on Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D., handing Wichita its fourth consecutive loss.
The Wingnuts sent nine batters to the plate in the fourth inning, scoring four runs to take a 4-0 lead. In the fifth, Ryan Patterson hit a three-run homer to boost the lead to 7-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, a pair of Wingnuts errors helped allow the Pheasants to score four runs off Sean Teague. They tacked on two in the sixth against Teague, two more in the seventh against Brandon Mathes, and scored the winning run in the eighth off reliever Cephas Howard.
Newcomer Joe Spiers homered in his first game with Wichita, a solo shot in the sixth.
