Luke Massetti pitched six shutout innings and his teammates provided four early runs in the Wingnuts' 7-4 victory Wednesday afternoon in Lincoln, Neb.
Chris Colton homered in the second inning to open the scoring, and Michael Thompson drove in Steve Pearson later in the inning.
Wichita added two more runs in the fourth. Michael Sharp singled home Colton, and Josh Horn's single knocked in Sharp. Both runs came with two outs.
Thompson homered in the sixth, and in the eighth he drove in Colton with a single. Patrick Brooks' double sent Thompson home to make it 7-3.
Massetti limited the Saltdogs to four hits and struck out five. The bullpen wobbled at times, but reliever Dustin Pease struck out cleanup hitter Juan Richardson to end the seventh with the tying runs on base, and closer Justin Dowdy got a strikeout with the bases loaded in the ninth to earn his third save.
