Southern Illinois coach Dan Callahan died Monday after a four-year fight with cancer. Callahan, 52, coached the Salukis for 16 seasons and was 442-447-1.
Butler Community College quarterback Zach Mettenberger was named the Jayhawk Conference offensive player of the year on Monday and Butler defensive end Cornelius Carradine was named the defensive player of the year.
Independence's Steve Carson was named the coach of the year.

* Coach Urban Meyer expects to get Florida back to the "elite level," and he plans to have offensive coordinator Steve Addazio along for the rebuilding project.
Meyer said Monday he has no plans to fire or demote Addazio, whose lackluster offense and underachieving offensive line are receiving the brunt of the blame for the program's first three-game losing streak at home in more than two decades.
The Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open announced Monday that it will be the first Nationwide Tour event with double-decker hospitality tents. Two two-story tents will be located near the par-3 17th green, which in recent years has become a raucous fan favorite with caddie races, burger giveaways and cheering not normally seen at a golf event. Up to 1,200 spectators will be accommodated for the 2011 tournament, which is June 16-19 at Crestview Country Club's North course.
Kansas State sophomore guard Mariah White was named the Big 12 co-player of the week after averaging 10 points, 10 assists and 7.5 rebounds in wins over Grambling State and St. John's. White shared the award with Oklahoma's Danielle Robinson.

Jason Terry scored 26 points, including the go-ahead jumper in the final minute, and the Dallas Mavericks handed the New Orleans Hornets their first loss of the season, 98-95.... Dwight Howard had 18 points and 14 rebounds, Vince Carter scored 19 points and Orlando smothered Memphis defensively in a 97-82 victory.... Gerald Wallace scored 26 points, set a franchise record with 17 free throws made and had a key steal late as Charlotte rallied to beat Minnesota 113-110. Michael Beasley scored 28 points, but had two key turnovers in the closing minutes.
Ryan Callahan scored 3:38 into overtime and the New York Rangers won their third consecutive game, scoring twice over the final 5:04 to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2.... Tim Thomas made 28 saves for his fourth shutout of the season, and Mark Recchi had two assists in Boston's 3-0 victory over New Jersey.... Flyers captain Mike Richards scored two goals for the second straight game, and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 28 shots to lead surging Philadelphia to a 5-1 win over Ottawa.
