Prairie Fire Wichita Marathon organizers are looking for several hundred volunteers for their Oct. 10 races.
The Wichita Marathon has been run for decades, but new sponsorship and an attempt to increase participation in the event has created the need for more volunteers.
Four races — the marathon, half-marathon, Mayor's 5K Challenge and a fun run/walk are expected to bring in about 2,500 runners, said Byron Crawford of the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission.
Crawford said the greatest need for volunteers is around the start/finish line, though many will be spread out throughout the courses.
Never miss a local story.
Volunteers are also needed in these areas: Set up on Friday and Saturday; T-shirt and packet pick-up areas; course safety monitors; baggage check; food distribution; and tear down of the course and finish line.
The marathon course begins in front of the Hyatt Regency Wichita downtown, then heads to College Hill, Eastborough and as far east as Rock Road before winding back downtown and into the Riverside area, ending back at the Hyatt.
