In the girls golf season, winning a regular-season league meet might not matter that much.
But don't tell Bishop Carroll that, because the Eagles think they could be onto something.
After coming up just short of rival Kapaun Mount Carmel last week, losing by a stroke at Auburn Hills, Carroll rolled over the Crusaders on Tuesday at Sim Park.
Getting all six scores in the 40s and receiving contributions from the crucial third and fourth spots in their lineup, the Eagles shot 172 and won by 13 strokes.
Never miss a local story.
"I think beating Kapaun means a lot to the girls because it gives them some confidence," Carroll coach Mark Berger. "For us to play well and to beat them by a decent margin and not just have a moral victory like last week, is going to be big for us."
Pacing Carroll was again Lakin Ubert (41).
That's two tournament victories for Ubert in her last three tournaments, while averaging a 41.
On her round Tuesday, Ubert made four pars and a birdie and played a stretch of four holes at even par.
"My short game was what saved me today," Ubert said. "I had one bad hole, but I stayed focused after that."
Carroll's defending league champion, Madison Murphy, also played well, posting a 42. She made par on three of her final four holes.
"I hit my driver straight all day and the wind didn't take it much," Murphy said. "My short game was better today. It's coming around."
The difference for Carroll was its secondary players taking their scores from practice into competition.
Victoria Harmon, Rian Tasker, Maddie Walden and Emily Ozbun combined for a 45 average, which is exactly what Carroll needs to be a threat to win in the postseason.
"Everybody contributed today and I'm proud of the girls for stepping up and shooting some of the best scores they've shot all year," Berger said. "Hopefully today can be a launching pad for the rest of the season."
