Chiefs sign former Jayhawk Opurum

— Former Kansas player Toben Opurum signed a contract with the Chiefs on Friday as an undrafted rookie. Opurum participated as a fullback on a trial basis in the Chiefs’ recent rookie camp, and that’s the position he will play for the Chiefs.

  • Chiefs sorting through options for receiver alongside Bowe

The signature moment for a Chiefs wide receiver during offseason practice happened this week when coach Andy Reid chewed out Jon Baldwin for being lackadaisical in getting to the line of scrimmage before a play.

  • Chiefs’ Bowe has lofty goals for himself, offense

Maybe it’s the optimism from the first week of Chiefs offseason practice, or maybe it’s that wide receiver Dwayne Bowe has removed his muzzle and is showing more of the trademark bravado he was known for early in his career.

  • Branden Albert back in Chiefs camp

All was good for Branden Albert in his long-awaited return to Chiefs camp Tuesday. His arrival was hailed by his coaches and teammates, and as the Chiefs continued their offseason practice, Albert took his spot at starting left tackle as he had been promised

  • Randle happy to be in Dallas

Joseph Randle had to wait 151 picks to hear his name during the NFL draft.

  • Wild survives test in win over Salina

The Wild experienced something a little different Saturday: A close game.

  • Bray making most of shot with Chiefs

Tyler Bray left the University of Tennessee with one season of collegiate eligibility remaining thinking he might be one of the first quarterbacks picked in the NFL Draft last month.

  • Chiefs’ top pick Fisher gets to work

Life started to get back to normal for Chiefs tackle Eric Fisher on Friday. He was a football player again.

  • New league seems perfect fit for Wichita Wild

The evidence points to an inferior league helping the Wild suddenly become an indoor football powerhouse, but it might have just as much to do with continuity.

  • Wichita Wild tramples Oklahoma 73-7

The Wichita Wild opened its season with a 44-point win over the Oklahoma Defenders. So its 73-7 victory at home Saturday against the same team showed the growth Wichita has made in the past seven games.

  • Wild’s Harper playing well enough to attraction attention

Kendrick Harper was getting off work with the Wichita school district Friday when he made time to talk about his impressive third season with the Wild.

  • Southeast’s Joseph Randle thinks Cowboys a good fit

If running back Joseph Randle could have picked an NFL team to select him in the 2013 draft, it would have been the Dallas Cowboys, who took him in the fifth round Saturday.

  • No QB is safe from Wild’s rush

In James McCartney’s bio on the Wild’s website, his 16 sacks over his first three years in Wichita are touted — he’s called a "mainstay on the defensive line."

  • It’s time for Chiefs to tackle the No. 1 pick

If things work out as they plan, the Chiefs will make the first overall pick in the NFL Draft for the only time Thursday night.

  • 2013 NFL Draft: Looking for Superman

Shortly after 7 Thursday night, Andy Reid will make a public proclamation about the player the Chiefs drafted with the No. 1 overall pick. His words will no doubt be similar to the ones spoken by Cleveland Browns president Carmen Policy in 2000, immediately after his team made defensive lineman Courtney Brown the NFL Draft’s top choice.

  • Chiefs’ focus could turn to skill players late in draft

The third day of the NFL Draft will be critical to the Chiefs’ finding adequate depth at the offensive skill positions.

  • Wild knocks off first-place Omaha

Wichita Wild coach Morris Lolar prepared his defense to face Omaha Beef quarterback James McNear, the league’s leader in total offense. When McNear didn’t show up in Wichita for Saturday’s game, Lolar’s defense was forced to adjust.

  • Chiefs find 2013 wrong time to draft a quarterback No. 1

The Chiefs signaled their thoughts on this year’s available college quarterbacks when, despite holding the first overall pick in the NFL Draft, they traded for Alex Smith and signed Chase Daniel.

  • Chiefs narrow prospects for top pick to four

Three months have passed since John Dorsey was hired as general manager of the Chiefs. Most of his waking hours, not to mention those of the scouts, have been spent researching players available in the upcoming NFL Draft.

  • Wild set to battle unbeaten Omaha

The Wild still has half a season to play, but it might not find any regular-season games as important or as telling as Saturday night’s tilt with Omaha at Hartman Arena.
