Wichita State won conference titles in a school-record eight sports to win the Missouri Valley Conference’s All-Sports championship.
The Shockers won it for the second straight year and the eighth in the past 11, finishing first or second in 12 of its 15 sports. Its score of 2.13 is an MVC record, topping WSU’s average finish of 2.3 in 2012-13. Indiana State finished second at 3.5, its best placing in the competition.
WSU won MVC titles in volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s outdoor track and field, women’s and men’s golf, softball and women’s tennis. Women’s and men’s cross country and baseball are the only sports to finish outside the top two. Indiana State won four MVC titles and finished second in five. Illinois State (3.9) finished third, winning one title. Southern Illinois (4.0) finished fourth with two titles and fifth-place UNI (4.9) won one.
WSU’s eight titles breaks its mark of seven, which it won in 2005-06 and 2009-10.
