Wichita State’s Bahner wins MVC decathlon

Wichita State senior Austin Bahner won the decathlon with 7,131 points on Saturday at the Missouri Valley Conference track and field championships in Carbondale, Ill.
Bahner, from Heights, placed first or second in five of the 10 events, winning the 100 meters (11.03 seconds), the long jump (23 feet, 3 inches), the 400 (50.25) and the discus (147-9).
He also won the open long jump with a leap of 24-5 3/4.
WSU’s Nikki Larch-Miller finished second in the heptathlon with 5,265 points, winning the 200 (24.43). Breanne Borman finished fourth with 5,064 points. She also advanced to Sunday’s final in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.94.
Natalie Morerod leads the qualifiers for the 400 hurdles with a time of 59.74.
In the men’s high jump, WSU’s Dave Brandhoff (6-9) finished second and Kerry Graber (6-8) placed third. Sophomore Ashley Peterson won the women’s high jump with a jump of 5-8.
The meet ends Sunday.
