The Wichita State softball team split a doubleheader against Missouri State on Tuesday, losing the first game, 6-5, before bouncing back for a 2-1 win in the second game at Springfield, Mo.
The Shockers blew a 3-0 lead in the first game as the Bears rallied with a walk-off, RBI single in the seventh.
In the second game, Paige Luellen’s two-RBI single in the sixth inning scored Brittany Fortner and Liz Broyles and proved to be the only offense WSU (30-18, 17-4 MVC) needed. Sloan Anderson (12-11) was the winning pitcher in the second game after losing the first, going all seven innings while striking out two and giving up five hits. Fortner went 4 of 6 at the plate in the two games.
The first-place Shockers return home Saturday for a weekend series against Southern Illinois, starting with a doubleheader at noon. It is the final home series of the season for WSU.
