Wichita State’s men’s basketball team will play at Utah on Dec. 3 in Salt Lake City, according to a source at WSU and the Deseret News.
The Utes, 21-12 last season, will return the game to Intrust Bank Arena during the 2015-16 season, the source said.
The addition of Utah further strengthens WSU’s non-conference schedule for next season. The Shockers will play Tulsa, Alabama and Saint Louis at home and travel to Detroit. They play Memphis in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Nov. 18. WSU also plays in the Diamond Head Classic, beginning Dec. 22 in Honolulu, with Nebraska, Colorado, Ohio, DePaul, Loyola Marymount, Hawaii and George Washington.
Utah, coached by Larry Krystkowiak, lost to Saint Mary’s in the first round of the NIT in March. The Utes went 9-9 in the Pacific-12 Conference with one scholarship senior. All-conference guard Delon Wright returns after averaging 15.5 points and 6.8 rebounds.
The Utes finished 2013 with a power ranking (RPI) of No. 83, according to warrennolan.com, and went 3-7 against top-50 teams.
Utah will also play Kansas on Dec. 13 at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo.
