Wichita State took over first place in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 3-0 victory over Drake on Saturday at Koch Arena.
The Shockers dominated Drake (25-23, 25-17, 25-13), hitting .252 and holding the Bulldogs to a .083 attack percentage. Senior Ashley Andrade led WSU with 10 kills and six blocks and compiled a .471 attack percentage. Ashlyn Driskill added nine kills. Setter Chelsey Feekin had 33 assists and nine digs.
WSU (20-4, 9-1) won its 27th straight match against Drake (2-20, 0-10). Illinois State (15-7, 8-2) dropped out of a first-place tie with WSU after losing 3-1 at Indiana State.
Andrade led WSU with five kills in first set and Sanders added four. WSU finished the set on a 6-4 run after Drake tied it 19-all. The Shockers led 13-7 and 16-12.
In the second set, an ace by Katie Reilly gave WSU a 14-9 lead and started an 8-4 run. Ashlyn Driskill’s kill ended the set.
The Shockers pulled away early in third set, building a 15-5 lead on Andrade’s block with a 5-0 run fueled by four Drake errors. Up 19-9, the Shockers allowed a 4-0 run by Drake before scoring the final two points to end the set.
