Wichita State volleyball defeats Utah State, Portland

Wichita State’s volleyball team defeated Utah State 3-2 on Friday afternoon in the Portland Nike Invitational in Portland, Ore.
The Shockers ended the fifth set on a 9-0 run to win 15-7. They trailed 7-6 before tying the set on an attack error and taking an 8-7 lead on a kill by Sam Sanders. Two more attack errors and a ball-handling error by the Aggies gave WSU an 11-7 lead.
Middle blocker Ashley Andrade led WSU with 16 kills and hit .464. Setter Chelsey Feekin added 12 kills with an attack percentage of .706. Jordan Hinkle had a career-high 15 digs. Libero Dani Mostrom added 12.
Outside hitter Rachel Orr led the Aggies with 19 kills.
Utah State (3-2) won the first set 25-23. The Shockers won the next two, 25-17 and 25-19, before losing 26-24.
The Shockers swept Portland (25-11, 33-31, 25-23) Friday night. Elizabeth Field and Sam Sanders led WSU (4-1) with 10 kills each. The Shockers out-blocked the Pilots (0-5) 16-6 with Ashley Andrade totaling eight. Feekin had six kills, 12 digs and four blocks.
The Shockers play Fresno State at 7 p.m. Saturday.
