Former Shocker Simmie Hill dies at 66

Simmie Hill, a gifted basketball player who attended Wichita State as a non-eligible freshman in 1965-66 before playing professionally in the ABA, died Sunday in Pittsburgh. He was 66.

Hill enrolled at WSU out of high school (Midland, Pa.) but couldn’t become academically eligible and transferred to a junior college before starring later at West Texas State.

He played four ABA seasons.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Hill is survived by four daughters, one son and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday in Industry, Pa.
