Wichita State athletics reorganizes multimedia, ticket operations

Wichita State’s athletic department announced agreements Monday with two companies that will outsource some of the Shockers’ multimedia and ticket organization.
A 10-year deal with CBS Sports Properties will create Shocker Sports Properties, a company that will oversee the athletic department’s television, radio and other multimedia contracts and sales. Athletic director Eric Sexton said Cox Communications will continue to produce WSU telecasts in men’s basketball, women’s basketball, volleyball and baseball, while BGM Sports Marketing will continue producing radio broadcasts for KFH, 1330-AM.
“The biggest benefit for us is we have a great partner in … Shocker Sports Properties,” Sexton said. “It’s an additional revenue opportunity for Wichita State. We were in a position where we don’t have the staffing to really increase that revenue stream.”
Sexton said Shocker Sports Properties would be headed by Scott Stevens, a former director of marketing in the athletic department who has worked in a similar multimedia role with Kansas State in past years.
Collegiate Consulting, an Atlanta firm with connections to the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, has been hired by WSU to assist with ticket sales.
Sexton said the company would focus on group sales, mini-packages and other tickets outside normal single-game or season-ticket sales.
Under the agreement, Collegiate Consulting will provide WSU with a director of ticket sales and an account executive working at WSU.
Assistant athletic director John Brewer was promoted to associate athletic director, overseeing a merger of the department’s marketing and media relations offices.
