Arkansas volunteer assistant Brian Walker, a former Razorbacks catcher, has been hired by new Wichita State baseball coach Todd Butler as a second assistant coach and third-base coach.
Walker has been on the Arkansas staff for three seasons, two as volunteer assistant. Butler said Walker’s responsibilities will also include recruiting, hitting, catching and assisting with pitching.
From 2005 through 2007, Walker was Arkansas’ everyday catcher and hit .260 with 26 home runs with 98 RBIs. He committed three errors in three seasons and was a two-time team captain. He received notoriety in 2006 when he complained of being hit by a pitch in an SEC game against Mississippi when replays showed he didn’t appear to be hit.
He was drafted by the Angels in the 29th round of the 2007 major-league draft and played four minor-league seasons before joining the Razorback staff.
Never miss a local story.
Scott Gurss was named director of baseball operations. Gurss was most recently hitting coach and recruiting coordinator at Neosho County Community College. Gurss was also on the Arkansas staff for two years with Butler.
