Dallas Baptist baseball coach Dan Heefner is no longer a candidate for the vacant position at Wichita State.
"Dan Heefner will be the head coach at Dallas Baptist for the 2014 season and the foreseeable future," said Nate Dreiling, assistant director of athletics at Dallas Baptist.
Heefner interviewed in Wichita earlier this week.
Heefner has been Dallas Baptist’s coach for six seasons after three more as an assistant coach. The Patriots are scheduled to join the Missouri Valley Conference for baseball in 2014.
The Patriots are 216-123 under Heefner, including NCAA regional appearances in 2008 and 2012 and a 2011 super regional loss to California.
Dallas Baptist was 30-30 this season, the program’s first non-winning season under Heefner. DBU finished tied for sixth in the 10-team Western Athletic Conference.
Heefner was an NAIA All-American at Olivet Nazarene (Kankakee, Ill.), then received his master’s degree from Northern Iowa. He has also been an assistant at UNI and Creighton.
