Wichita State basketball fourth in final coaches poll

Wichita State is No. 4 in the final USA Today poll of college basketball coaches, its highest finish in a major poll.
The Shockers (30-9) advanced to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament and lost 72-68 to Louisville in the national semifinals on Saturday in Atlanta.
WSU, unranked entering the tournament, received 643 points from 31 coaches. NCAA champion Louisville earned all 31 first-place votes, followed by No. 2 Michigan and No. 3 Syracuse (696 points).
Kansas finished No. 8 with Kansas State at No. 20 and Creighton No. 21.
WSU was not ranked in the final Associated Press Top 25, released March 18.
The Shockers finished No. 21 in the 2006 coaches poll. In 2012, it ranked No. 18 in the final AP poll of the season.
The program’s previous high in a final poll was No. 5 in the AP polls, both in 1963 and 1964.
