Wichita State hopes its bullpen stays as stingy when No. 24 Arizona State begins a two-game series on Tuesday night at Eck Stadium.

In the past five games, Shocker relievers have a combined 0.81 ERA over 22 1/3 innings. One of the best games for the bullpen in the stretch was Friday night’s 4-3 victory over Illinois State in 10 innings. Albert Minnis went three shutout innings, allowing two hits, walking one and striking out seven. T.J. McGreevy went the final four scoreless innings, yielding three hits, no walks and a strikeout.

Aaron LaBrie has not allowed an earned run in his past 9 2/3 innings. He last yielded an earned run on March 13 to North Dakota, giving him one earned run in 12 1/3 innings for a 0.73 ERA.

On offense, Garrett Bayliff has been the hottest Shocker. The right fielder went 8 for 14 against Illinois State for a .571 average. He drove in four runs in the series as WSU got off to a 2-1 start in Missouri Valley play.

Also hot on offense is freshman outfielder Joe Haddox. He went 4 for 7 in the final two games of the Illinois State series. He was 5 for 13 for the three games and is 8 for 18 (.444) in his past five games.

Arizona State (15-8-1, 5-4 Pac-10) is coming off a near-sweep of No. 7 UCLA. ASU won the first two games 4-1 and 7-4. UCLA won the final game 12-10 in 10 innings. ASU freshman Dalton DiNatale sent the game into extra innings with a two-run homer in the ninth inning.
