A Wichita State baseball team that was swept in three games over the weekend — and didn’t lead in any of the games — travels to Tulsa on Tuesday to face an Oral Roberts team that had only slightly better opening-series results.
Oral Roberts lost its first two games against Saint Louis before winning 5-0 on Sunday. Tuesday’s matchup is the first of three straight Tuesday games between the Titans and Shockers over the next three weeks, with the final two at Eck Stadium.
The Shockers will try to end an early slump that saw him hit .243 in the Pittsburgh series and compile an 8.67 ERA. WSU was outscored 27-15 by Pitt and endured its first three-game home sweep in Gene Stephenson’s 36 seasons.
Including last season’s two losses in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, the Shockers’ five-game streak is the longest since the 2009 team lost eight straight.
Cale Elam will start for WSU after giving up three runs and seven hits over 4 2/3 innings of Friday’s opener. ORU will start right-handed Guillermo Trujillo, a freshman making his first appearance.
