Wichita State picked to finish second in Valley baseball

Wichita State is picked second in the Missouri Valley Conference coaches preseason baseball poll. The Shockers received one first-place vote.
Missouri State is the favorite after receiving 60 points and six first-place votes. Coaches gave WSU 47 points. Illinois State and Indiana State each received 45 points to tie for third.
WSU first baseman Johnny Coy was named to the all-conference team. The Shockers return six starters from a team that went 35-25 last season and finished third in the MVC (12-9).
Missouri State (40-22) returns MVC Pitcher of the Year Nick Petree and Freshman of the Year Tyler Burgess, a relief pitcher.
Pitcher Sean Manaea leads defending champion Indiana State (41-19). Manaea, a junior lefty, was named the top pitcher and outstanding pro prospect in the Cape Cod League last summer.
