Junior Sam Sanders had 15 kills and was one of four Wichita State players in double figures Friday night as the Shockers beat Missouri State in four sets of a Missouri Valley Conference volleyball match in Springfield, Mo.
The Shockers dropped the first game 25-20 but won the next three 25-18, 25-23 and 25-21. WSU improved to 13-6, 7-2 in the Missouri Valley. Missouri State is 11-10, 5-4.
Ashley Andrade added 12 kills and a .455 attack night for the Shockers, while Emily Adney and Elizabeth Field had 10 kills each.
Chelsey Feekin had 45 assists and 11 digs for WSU, which saw Missouri State score 12 of the final 16 points in the first game to take a 1-0 set lead.
WSU responded, though, taking the second-set lead for good midway through the game. Sanders’ kill made it 12-9 and Jackie Church (16 digs) made it 18-14 on a service ace.
Missouri State led 18-13 in the third game, but kills from Andrade and Sanders got WSU tied 19-19. Field’s kill clinched the game for WSU.
The Shockers have won four straight matches and are off until a road trip to Southern Illinois and Evansville next Friday.
Texas tops Kansas — The host Longhorns stayed unbeaten in the Big 12 and handed KU its first conference loss, 25-14, 25-22, 26-24. Catherine Carmichael had 16 kills to lead the Jayhawks.
