Wichita State’s cross country teams swept the men’s and women’s titles for a second straight weekend on Saturday.

Wichita State’s cross country teams swept the men’s and women’s titles for a second straight weekend on Saturday.

The Shocker women placed five runners in the top 15, led by champion Aliphine Tuliamuk. With Marcos Bailon finishing second, the men grabbed six of the top eight spots. Ten women’s teams (four NCAA Division I) and eight men’s (three Division I) participated. WSU started the season by sweeping the titles in the JK Gold Classic.

Tuliamuk won her second meet with a time of 18 minutes, one second in the 5-kilometer race. Sophomore Katie McLeod (18:37) finished third with Samantha Shukla (18:58) in seventh.

Bailon ran the men’s 8-kilometer course in 25:25, seven seconds behind UMKC’s Cosmas Ayabei. WSU’s Sterling Spencer placed third (25:40) with Chris Burnett (26:00) in fifth and Jake Wike (26:02) sixth.
