Wichita State will try to keep up a good run of pitching and clean fielding tonight when the Shockers play host to Oral Roberts.
Errorless ball has been played by WSU (10-7) in the past six games, which is a school record. Four times, WSU has gone without an error in five straight games, the last time 2005.
Shocker pitchers have been almost as sharp. WSU has given up more than four runs twice in nine March games.
Right-hander A.J. Ladwig, tonight’s scheduled starter, has been as sharp as any Shocker pitcher. In four appearances and one start, Ladwig (1-0) has allowed one unearned run in 17 1/3 innings. He’s walked one and struck out 12, giving up 11 hits.
Oral Roberts is coming off a 3-2 win at Alabama on Sunday in the Crimson Tide’s tournament. ORU’s Chris Williams drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with two outs in the ninth inning. Alabama got runners on first and second with one out in the bottom half, but reliever Lars Liquori retired on batter and closer Matt Rush got the final out on a strikeout.
