Wichita State is moving up to elite company in the college basketball rankings.
It is No. 14 in the coaches poll, gaining five spots. The Shockers are No. 15 in Monday’s Associated Press poll, rising from No. 19 with two wins last week.
Creighton returned to the rankings, No. 24 in the USA Today/ESPN poll voted on by coaches and No. 25 in the AP poll voted on by writers and broadcasters.
That gives the Missouri Valley Conference two ranked teams for the first time since Feb. 8, 1983 with No. 16 WSU and No. 17 Illinois State.
The Shockers (26-4) defeated Illinois State and Drake last week. Meanwhile, teams ranked ahead of them such as Florida State, New Mexico and Louisville lost.
WSU received 754 votes, up from 467 the previous week.
It is WSU’s highest spot in the AP poll since it reached No. 10 on Dec. 11, 2006.
It has 352 points in the coaches poll, up from 183 a week ago.
Kansas is No. 3 in the AP poll and No. 4 in the coaches poll. Kansas State received votes in both.
