The Pittsburg State women’s team lost its NCAA Division II quarterfinal game, falling to Shaw 61-58 on Tuesday in San Antonio.
The Gorillas led 42-34 when Drew Roberts hit a three-point shot with 12:58 left in the game. Shaw pulled even with a 9-1 run over the next 3 1/2 minutes. From there the lead changed hands six times during the next five minutes.
A jumper by Shaw’s Kyria Buford made it 53-49 at the 4-minute mark. Pitt State cut the lead to one on a three-pointer from Alexa Bordewick 13 seconds later. The Gorillas had three chances to take the lead during the next 1:11, but the possessions ended with two missed shots and a turnover. Shaw scored two baskets and PSU committed two more turnovers to make it 57-52 with 34 seconds left, and the Gorillas never got closer until a three-pointer in the final seconds made it 61-58.
Bordewick led Pittsburg State with 16 points, and Lizzy Jeronimus added 13.
