Bethel football coach Mike Moore announced his resignation Friday after 10 seasons. He will coach the team in today's season finale against Sterling.
Moore won KCAC titles with the Threshers in 2006 and 2007 and was named KCAC coach of the year in 2000 and 2006. His career record is 47-51, including 2-7 this season.
"There were several things that played into it; but mainly that my kids are 15, 13 and 11 and it's getting harder to justify to them why I can't see them or come watch them play," said Moore, 41. "This was a very difficult decision, but it's what I think is best for my family and for this program."
Moore, who played at Dodge City Community College and Kansas State, was also Bethel's defensive coordinator from 1997 to 1999. He was named interim coach for the team's final two games in 1999.
Never miss a local story.
"I'm not sure what the future holds for me," Moore said. "There are going to need to be some things that need to be done to build (Bethel's) program back up, and hopefully the current administration will make that happen."
Bethel defensive coordinator Travis Graber was named the Threshers' interim coach.
