Kansas linebacker Marcus Jenkins-Moore is leaving the program without ever having played a down.
Jenkins-Moore, a former highly-regarded junior-college transfer, announced the news Thursday on his Twitter account.
Kansas coach Charlie Weis confirmed Jenkins-Moore’s departure in a statement.
“Marcus has asked for and been granted a release to transfer,” Weis said, “and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”
An outside linebacker, Jenkins-Moore underwent knee injury last summer and sat out the 2013 season. He was considered the 57th best junior-college player in the country in the 2013 class, according to Rivals.com.
Jenkins-Moore was also a junior college teammate at Pierce College (Calif.) with former KU defensive lineman Marquel Combs, another touted player who left the program early last season.
Earlier this week at Big 12 media days, Weis said Jenkins-Moore was a “ways away” from getting on the field.
Jenkins-Moore was listed as a “Buck” linebacker on the preseason roster. Senior Michael Reynolds returns at that spot, while senior Victor Simmons is also listed at the Buck spot after playing nickel back last season.
