Davis, Jayhawks shut Newman down early

Senior forward Carolyn Davis went on a 10-0 run in the first three minutes of the game as No. 10 Kansas defeated NCAA Division II Newman 97-64 on Sunday at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence.

Davis led the Jayhawks with 24 points and 9 rebounds. The win improved the Jayhawks to 8-1, while the Jets fell to 4-7 with the loss. Davis is now just 63 points away from moving into the top 10 all-time scoring list for Kansas.

Newman freshman guard Alexandra Ciabattoni finished with a game and career-high 27 points on 11-for-20 shooting.

Kansas State 68, South Dakota 54 — Kansas State’s Brittany Chambers filled up the stat column with 29 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals as the Wildcats used a 37-21 halftime lead to roll to the win over South Dakota in Manhattan.

Brianna Craig added 14 points for K-State. Nicole Seekamp led South Dakota with 11 points.
