Best player: “Delly,” or Aussie junior guard Matthew Dellavedova, leads the Gaels in scoring and is among national assist leaders. He’s the West Coast Conference player of the year.
How they got here: A 15-point home loss to Loyola Marymount and a 14-point Bracketbusters loss at Murray State fueled doubters, but Saint Mary’s won its last four, including an OT win in the WCC final against Gonzaga.
How far can they go: The Gaels should get past Purdue on Friday, then offer a non-BCS serving of nervousness to Kansas on Sunday.
