One of last week's three brawls involving University of Kansas basketball and football players has become the subject of a criminal investigation by university police.
Public Safety Office Maj. Chris Keary said Friday that a disorderly conduct investigation has been opened on the incident outside of Burge Union on Sept. 22 around 6:50 p.m.
In the fight, the first of three involving the athletes over a 16-hour period, basketball player Tyshawn Taylor dislocated his thumb.
Surveillance video showed dozens of people outside the union and in the neighboring parking lot, and many spilling into Burge when a police vehicle drove up.
Never miss a local story.
"We have enough information to write up an incident report," Keary said.
Keary said that incident also has been linked to an arrest. Guy Lipscomb, 19, was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal threat for his role in a fight that occurred later in a parking lot outside of Jayhawker Towers. Lipscomb isn't a Kansas student.
"We believe there's a connection between what was going on (at Burge) and at the Towers," Keary said.
The report will be sent to the city prosecutor to determine whether additional charges will be filed.
A third fight involving athletes broke out the next day outside Wescoe Hall.
"We're still looking into that incident," Keary said.
