K-State frustrated Texas from start to finish with its defensive pressure. The Longhorns shot 32.7 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from three and turned the ball over 18 times. That led to a season-low 57 points.
The Wildcats were particularly good against Cameron Ridley, who scored five points, and Javan Felix, who made three of 12 shots.
Marcus Foster and Will Spradling seemed motivated after allowing 35 points against West Virginia guard Juwan Staten.
Texas coach Rick Barnes gave K-State credit for its strong effort, but also pointed out that the Longhorns scored 59 points in a win over TCU earlier in the week. He doesn’t think they are playing at their best.
Nigel Johnson may have moved ahead of Jevon Thomas in K-State’s playing rotation. Johnson was on the floor for 15 minutes, while Thomas came off the bench for three. Weber has turned to Thomas throughout Big 12 play for defense and ball-handling, but he had harsh words for Thomas following a poor effort against West Virginia. He was also unhappy with Thomas at a recent practice. Both guards were held scoreless.
Texas forward Jonathan Holmes, who beat K-State with a buzzer-beating three last month in Austin, only played nine minutes on Saturday due to an injured knee. He left the game in the first half with an injury. Barnes said he didn’t know what his status was moving forward, and wouldn’t know until he underwent an MRI. Thomas Gipson led K-State with 11 rebounds. Will Spradling has scored eight or more points in five straight games. Wesley Iwundu had a career-high eight assists.
