K-State women tumble

Kansas State’s women’s basketball team fell behind early and never recovered, losing to UTEP 84-39 on Saturday in El Paso, Texas.

UTEP scored the game’s first 13 points as K-State missed its first seven shots, and the Miners stretched the lead to 30-4 with 8:15 left in the first half. By halftime the Wildcats trailed 46-13.

The final margin of 45 points was Kansas State’s worst defeat since losing to Connecticut 72-26 in the second round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Freshman Kelly Thomson hit five three-point shots and led K-State with 15 points. Freshman Breanna Lewis added 12 points.

The Wildcats return home Wednesday to face Wichita State.
