Olathe South girls basketball coach Steve Ingram confirmed that junior Kylee Kopatich earlier this week verbally committed to play basketball at Kansas State.
Kopatich, a 5-foot-10 guard, led the Sunflower League in scoring last season, averaging 17.6 points. She also ranked among the league leaders in assists (3.6) and steals (3.5), and averaged 5.7 rebounds.
Olathe South won a sub-state title last season, but lost to Wichita Heights in the first round of the Kansas Class 6A tournament. The Falcons finished 20-2. Kopatich was a second-team selection on The Kansas City Star’s All-Metro team. She also was a Sunflower League first-team pick.
Though they’ll miss each other by a year, Kopatich will be the second former Olathe South player in recent years to play women’s basketball in the Big 12. She follows Natalie Knight, who is currently a junior at Kansas. Kopatich will be the second Olathe native at Kansas State, joining Olathe North alum Jessica Shieble, who will be a freshman this season.
