The Kansas State baseball team entered the national polls for the first time since 2009 on Monday.

The Wildcats, 37-15 overall and 14-7 in the Big 12, came in at No. 19 in Baseball America’s Top 25 and entered the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll at No. 21.

K-State is coming off a three-game sweep over Kansas and holds a two-game lead over West Virginia and Oklahoma in the Big 12 standings. The Wildcats play host to a three-game series against the Sooners starting Friday, and are one victory away from clinching at least a share of its first Big 12 regular-season baseball championship.

K-State has already won at least a share of the Big 12 regular-season football and men’s basketball titles this academic year.

Basketball in Brooklyn — The K-State men’s basketball team will take part in the Brooklyn Hoops Winter Festival next season by playing Tulane on Dec. 28 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The neutral-court game will serve as part of a tripleheader at the second annual college basketball event. St. John’s and Columbia will kickoff the day with VCU and Boston College following K-State and Tulane.

Game time and television coverage will be announced at a later date. The game will allow K-State’s three New York natives — Shane Southwell, Omari Lawrence and Jevon Thomas — to play in their home state.

“This will be a great opportunity to take our East Coast guys home — especially being Shane’s senior year — and play in a world-class arena like the Barclays Center,” K-State coach Bruce Weber said in a statement. “Tulane is a quality opponent, who is coming off a 20-win season and postseason appearance, so it will be another solid test for our team.”

K-State’s 2013-14 basketball schedule is nearing completion. Other marquee nonconference games include Gonzaga at Intrust Bank Arena and a trip to the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
