Top five recruits

Name Pos. Rank Ht. Wt. School
1. Tanner Wood DE 16* 6-5 247 Conway Springs
Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year played everything from LB to QB to RB in high school, his athleticism should allow him to make an impact right away on defensive line.
2. Nick Ramirez LB 11* 6-1 228 Lee’s Summit West (Mo.)
One of the top LBs in Missouri should fit in well to K-State’s defense. Strong tackler, good against the run. He may be underrated four-star recruit.
3. Jake Waters QB 1** 6-2 215 Iowa Western CC
Led Iowa Western to a national championship. He was heavily recruited. Could be Collin Klein’s successor next season.
4. Jordan Willis DE 39* 6-5 260 Rockhurst (Mo.)
Three-star recruit from Rockhust should be able to compete for playing time right away — K-State loses four starters on defensive line.
5. Devon Nash DE 6** 6-5 260 Iowa Western CC
Nash was one of the top juco pass-rushers and will bring much-needed experience to Manhattan.

The one that got away

Martrell Spaight, a highly-touted junior college linebacker, briefly committed to the Wildcats. Then Arkansas came calling and he switched to the Razorbacks.

Still fishing for …

K-State returns the bulk of its receivers next season, but depth is always welcome. Only one wide out, 5-foot-7 LeAndrew Gordon, is expected to sign on Wednesday.

Position answered for …

Quarterback. The Wildcats needed someone to challenge Daniel Sams for the starting job next season. As the best junior college quarterback available, Jake Waters fits that bill.

Position unanswered for …

K-State will have to find two new defensive tackles next season. Will any of the defensive ends or linebackers who have committed be willing to move? Or will the Wildcats hope to pick up a tackle or two late?
