Kitzbuhel, Austria ( - The Kitzbuhel Cup lost its sixth seed on Tuesday when two-time titlist Robin Haase exited the draw at this clay court tennis event.

Italian Paolo Lorenzi whipped the Dutch Haase 6-2, 6-3, while seventh-seeded Finnish veteran Jarkko Nieminen avoided an upset in his first match at this tournament in eight years by handling Russian journeyman Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-4, 6-4 on the red clay at Kitzbuhel Tennis Stadium. Haase was the back-to- back champion here in 2011 and 2012, accounting for both of his career ATP titles.

Also on Day 2, Argentine Juan Monaco overcame Kazakhstan's Andrey Golubev 0-6, 6-2, 6-1; Belgian wild card David Goffin topped Frenchman Kenny De Schepper 6-2, 6-4; Argentine Diego Sebastian Schwartzman whipped German wild card Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-0; and Spaniard Pablo Andujar dismissed long-time Austrian crowd favorite and 2008 Kitzbuhel runner-up Jurgen Melzer 6-3, 6-4. The hot Andujar is fresh off his title in Gstaad, where he upended Monaco in the finale.

The former top-10 star Monaco was last year's Kitzbuhel runner-up to Spaniard Marcel Granollers and captured the title here back in 2007. His second-round opponent on Wednesday will be Nieminen.

The top seeds in Kitzbuhel are 2012 runner-up Philipp Kohlschreiber and the reigning champion Granollers. The German Kohlschreiber will open his stay against Goffin, while Granollers will begin defense of his title against Schwartzman on Wednesday.

This week's winner will claim $104,000.
